The Importance of Heating Unit Maintenance

Most of the repairs we perform on heating units could have been prevented with early detection. Here at Shawnee Heating & Cooling Inc., we offer maintenance plans where we make seasonal visits to your home or office and perform routine check-ups that include cleanings, filter changes and inspections of unit wiring and safety mechanisms.

Our Heating Maintenance Plans

Gas Furnace

  • Clean and adjust automatic controls
  • Clean burners
  • Lubricate as needed
  • Test for combustion leaks
  • Test safety shut-off response
  • Check blower
  • Clean or replace air filter
  • Check flue for satisfactory operation

Heat Pump

  • Lubricate as needed
  • Check defrost cycle and reversing valve operation.
  • Adjust air volume for maximum efficiency
  • Check safety devices and electrical connections for tightness
  • Check blower
  • Check for oil and refrigerant leaks
  • Test electrical controls for proper operation
  • Check refrigerant level
  • Check refrigerant controls and coil temperature for maximum efficiency
  • Clean or replace air filter
  • Check condensate drain

Electric Furnace

  • Clean and check automatic controls
  • Check all wiring for loose connections and condition of insulation
  • Check supply voltage
  • Check amerage draw
  • Lubricate as needed
  • Check blower
  • Clean or replace air filter

Useful Heating Maintenance Tips

  • A standard one-inch filter should be changed every 30 days.
  • Remember to replace the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  • If storing items nearby, keep them at least two feet away from your furnace.
  • Never store flammable products near or around the furnace!
